Dag Larson

Most people say they always knew photography was their path and that they had a camera in their hands since birth. For Dag, that is far from the truth. He will tell you that this path occurred due to happenstance. Though the way he creates, his path was likely written in the stars before time itself.

He grew up in a very outdoor-minded family, learning life lessons from the wilderness by camping, fly fishing, and climbing at an early age (He summited three 14ers in his mother’s womb, his adventurous spirit pulling her relentlessly up each peak). After high school, these skills would point his compass straight west. Without even the slightest inclination of what he was doing, he did what most unrecognized, creative geniuses do- proceeding to hold down many mediocre jobs while spending most of his time in the mountains participating in the activities he knew best.

When a camera was finally placed in his hands, people say the moment was akin to Excalibur being extricated from rock. The planets aligned and the earth shook as he took off on the adventure of a lifetime. Sure, traveling the world and shooting for some of the biggest names in the outdoor world would be enough for anyone, but for Dag the idea of understanding and mastering light and shadows became an obsession. Light became his paint brush and shadow his Madonna.

The queen of England once gazed longingly upon a photo and asked if it was created by Dag Larson. It was not, but that isn’t the point.
